Membership at Mount Calvary Baptist Church

We believe many elements of New Testament Christianity can best be obeyed within the context of a scriptural relationship to a local church, and, in fact, many Scriptural admonitions cannot be obeyed by a believer without his commitment to being a part of a local assembly of believers.

For example, though Scripture does not command membership, it does command submission to the authority of a local church (Heb. 13:17; 1 Thes. 5:12-13), forbids the forsaking of assembling with other believers (Heb. 10:25), urges the exercise of spiritual gifts for the edification of others within the body (1 Cor. 12:7; Eph. 4:16), commands financially supporting the ministry (1 Cor. 16:2), and makes possible the practice of church discipline for the purity of the body of Christ (Mt. 18:15-18; 1 Cor. 5:1-13). In the context of a local church, a believer is also better enabled to fulfill the Great Commission (Mt. 28:19-20).

If the Lord is leading you to consider becoming part of the Mount Calvary family, call our church office (233-1684) or use the website contact form to let us know.  We'll arrange a time when you can attend our 5-week class for prospective members, "Getting to Know Mount Calvary."  It meets regularly in Room 118 on Sunday evenings at 4:30.

Some things we'll ask of you should you be interested in joining will be:

  • to read our church covenant (Do you have the freedom to agree to share in this covenant with us?).
  • to read through our Church Constitution and Doctrinal Statement (Can you wholeheartedly support these doctrinal positions of the church?).
  • to contact one of our elders to arrange to share your testimony of salvation and subsequent baptism by immersion. Afterward, we’ll arrange a time for you to share your testimony publicly with our church family so we can reaffirm our covenant together with you.
